Are dental implants right for me?
You may qualify for dental implants if you have missing or non restorable teeth, and are in relatively good overall health. The only way of determining if implants are right for you is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Pena Marro. We then identify whether you have adequate bone and healthy gums to support the new tooth structure. To facilitate access for our patients we offer a Free Dental Implant Consultation and for a limited time we will be offering $500 off your treatment. Options for sedation are available to those who are anxious about dental treatments.
A dental implant acts as a replacement for a lost tooth and functions, feels and looks like a real tooth. An implant can replace a missing front tooth to restore a beautiful smile. When a person has lost a back tooth, the implant provides normal chewing ability again.
Implants are titanium posts that are directly placed in the jawbone. After time the post bonds with the bone, which lays an extremely strong foundation for restoring the tooth. When a tooth is missing the bone can deteriorate and affect the appearance of the face. Teeth can start shifting and the integrity of the entire facial structure can be compromised. When a titanium post is inserted into the bone, these situations can be completely prevented.
Dental Implant Evaluation
The first step in determining whether you’re a candidate for dental implants is taking an x-ray that shows your jaw bone mass. We will ask you about your health history as well and we will address any concerns and questions that you have during the initial consultation. We will work with you closely during the entire process so that you have a complete understanding of the treatment and feel comfortable moving forward.
Metal anchors, which act as a substitute for teeth roots, are placed surgically into the bone. A small post attaches to the anchor and protrudes up through the gum line. The first visit for the actual treatment will involve placing the dental implants, which lie beneath the gums.
After 3 to 6 months the dentist will uncover the dental implants and the appropriate abutments will be attached to them. Other attachments can also be added to the implants and the necessary restorative structures such as a crown, a denture or a bridge are created.
Implants are able to support a variety of different restorations ranging from crowns to dentures. Some restorations are removable while others are permanent. A dental crown can replace a single tooth while dental bridges and full and partial dentures can replace several teeth in a row that are missing. Dental implants allow a person to smile, laugh, speak and eat again with total confidence and comfort.
